First Aid for Sports (EFAW + Sports Injury Modules)

FAIB EFAW plus sports injury modules: pitch-side response, fractures, spinal injury and concussion.

Course Overview

Our First Aid for Sports course combines the full FAIB Emergency First Aid at Work (EFAW) qualification with 1 hour of additional sports injury modules, built around the injuries and incidents most likely in rugby, martial arts and other contact sports.

Alongside CPR, AED use, choking, bleeding control and casualty assessment, coaches, managers and club first aiders learn to lead a pitch-side or mat-side response, support suspected fractures and joint injuries, protect a player with a suspected spinal injury, recognise head injury and concussion and remove players safely from play, and understand injury prevention and safe return to sport.

The course is delivered as a private group session at your club or venue. Learners receive a FAIB-accredited EFAW certificate and a separate First Aid Doctor certificate for the sports injury modules.

Certification

Successful learners receive two certificates:

  • A FAIB-accredited Emergency First Aid at Work (EFAW) certificate, valid for 3 years, including Life-Threatening Bleeding Awareness and Anaphylaxis Awareness
  • A First Aid Doctor Sports Injury Supplemental Modules certificate, recording 1 hour of additional training, valid for 3 years

The sports injury certificate records completion of:

  • Pitch-Side Readiness and Incident Leadership
  • Suspected Fractures and Joint Injuries
  • Suspected Spinal Injuries
  • Head Injury and Concussion
  • Injury Prevention and Return to Activity and Sport

The supplemental certificate is a First Aid Doctor award. It is not a governing-body qualification (such as an RFU award) and does not imply approval by any sports governing body.
