Dental Medical Emergencies, Sedation & Airway Management

Life support, airway and sedation-emergency training for dental sedation teams, mapped to IACSD standards.

Course Overview

Our Dental Medical Emergencies, Sedation & Airway Management course is designed for dental teams providing conscious sedation. It combines adult life support, airway management, assisted ventilation and the recognition and rescue of sedation-related emergencies into a single, doctor-led day built around what can go wrong in the dental chair.

The course is mapped to the life-support, airway and sedation-complication requirements of the IACSD Standards for Conscious Sedation in the Provision of Dental Care, and every learner is individually assessed on each practical skill and leads at least one sedation-emergency scenario.

Successful completion provides 6 hours 45 minutes of verifiable CPD. After each course your practice also receives an inspection evidence pack: certificates, an attendance and taught-time record, the IACSD mapping and an in-house drill record you can show a CQC inspector or sedation lead.

Certification

Successful learners receive a First Aid Doctor certificate of successful completion, recording the knowledge assessment and individually assessed practical competencies in:

  • Adult BLS & AED
  • Emergency Oxygen
  • OPA, NPA and i-gel insertion
  • Bag-Valve-Mask Ventilation
  • Management of Simulated Sedation-Related Deterioration

This course provides:

  • 6 hours 45 minutes of verifiable CPD

This is not an official Resuscitation Council UK ILS Provider course and does not qualify the holder to provide sedation. Annual refresher training is recommended.
